SS.CC. Retreat together Sept, 13 to 18, 2026
Our annual retreat at LaSalette Retreat Center, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, is something we all look forward to every year. It is a time to relax and ponder the direction that we—individually and communally—are moving in regarding our relationship to God.
This year, the Provincial, Fr. Lane Akiona, ss.cc., was with us. And he was amongst the first to hear the difficult news: the retreat director cancelled on Friday evening, the 11th, due to the tragic death of his brother-in-law.
So, what now? we thought. We shared different ideas about making some changes, what to do in place of the conferences we had hoped to hear, and who would take each daily Mass, something we ask the director to do every year.
We decided to have a semi-silent retreat, canceling the morning conference, and doing some faith sharing in the afternoon, based on the daily readings at Mass. I don’t think we do enough of this as a local community, and it turned out to be meaningful every day.
All the rest fell into place. The weather for the week was excellent, sunny and warm. The food was superb, as usual. One evening, we had Mexican Chicken! There was plenty of peace and solitude for prayer, individually and together. A memorable retreat week.
