Shining His Light

Br. Emmanuelle del Castillo, campus minister and teacher, at St. Patrick School Kaimuki

Br. Emmanuelle “Manny” del Castillo, ss.cc. is doing a stellar job and is much loved and appreciated at St. Patrick School in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu nearly one year after his perpetual vows in Maui.

Br. Manny has followed in a long line of Sacred Hearts serving full time (plus) with tremendous dedication and love, including Br. Richard Kupo ss.cc. and Sr. Ann Claire De Costa.

Principal Ms. Shireen Santiago praised Br. Manny:  “He has immersed himself in St. Patrick’s.   The students get so excited when a brother comes over.”

Br. Manny has a number of responsibilities at this thriving Catholic school, which was founded in 1930 by Fr. Athanasius Bous, SS.CC. and staffed by Sacred Hearts Sisters.  He teaches religion, has a homeroom class, and is a campus minister and a tutor.   He explained that the students come up with prayers for their services and help in other ways with liturgy.

“Auntie” Hale Harbottle, who works in the after-school program and is a former cook and care-giver at St. Patrick’s Monastery, spoke highly of Br. Manny.  “He’s doing an excellent job!”

Br. Manny is clearly growing in his vocation and service in Catholic school education.  His dedication and care for the students is very evident and admirable.
